Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation is the medical name for the ‘boob job’. It means increasing the size of the breast with a medical implant or fat. This implant is usually made of silicone and is inserted into the breast via an incision in the crease underneath the breasts. Fat can also be taken from abdomen or buttocks and used for breast enlargement.

FAQ’S on Breast Augmentation

Where are the incisions placed for breast implants?

There are mainly 3 incisions which can be used that is the inframammary, periareolar and transaxillary but we prefer the inframammary since the scar is hidden and the results more stable and predictable as compared to other incisions.

What type of implants are the best?

We always use US FDA approved high grade cohesive gel silicone implants with a guarantee and lowest chances of rupture. They are the safest with the most natural feel too. Though they are bit expensive than the chinese and French implants but they have a good longevity with rare chances of complications.

How long it takes to recover from breast augmentation surgery? When can one resume exercise?

Usually it’s a day care procedure with discharge on the same day. We recommend rest for 1-2 days and client can resume normal activities in 4-5 days. Normal walk can be started in 7-10 days but heavy exercises, gym, swimming or lifting heavy weights are best avoided for 4-6 weeks.

Can one decide they need implants or just breast lift or both?

When one stands in front of a mirror, one should look at the nipples in relation to the natural crease beneath your breasts. If your nipples are lower than your breast crease before surgery, adding implants without removing excess skin will make them saggy. And it will just get worse with gravity over time. So in such cases u need a lift first and if u want still bigger size u can add implants later. But if the nipples are above or on the crease then implant surgery is best for the client.

It is also called Mastopexy. This refers to a group of elective surgical operations designed to lift or change the shape of person’s breast. Mastopexy may involve repositioning the areola and nipple as well as lifting the breast tissue and removing skin.

This is the name given to the procedure to reduce the size of breasts. Many women find that large, heavy breasts can cause backache and other physical problems. There are psychological issues as well which include a lack of self-confidence and self-esteem. Some women find that they are subject to unwanted attention or comments about their appearance. The surgery itself involves removing breast tissue, fat and skin. The remaining underlying tissues and nipple are then moved to higher location.

FAQ’s on Breast Reduction

Previously the inverted T scar was the most popular incision but it had its own side effects including its failure to last long. Now we prefer the vertical incision which gives the best scar and is more predictable and long lasting too.

Is breast reduction permanent?

Yes, breast reduction surgery is permanent unless patients gain excess weight and the remaining fat cells multiply and grow again.

What should the client expect postoperatively?

There will be some amount of swelling and bruising after surgery. Suction drains are usually kept for 2-3 days. Padded bandages are given for breast support, which shall continue for 2-3 weeks. Pain is tolerable and easily controlled with mild pain killers.

When can the exercises be resumed post surgery?

Usually it’s a day care procedure with discharge on the same day or maximum next day morning. We recommend rest for 2-3 days till the drains are removed and client can resume normal activities in 5-7 days. Normal walk can be started in 10-12days but heavy exercises, gym, swimming or lifting heavy weights are best avoided for 6-8 weeks.
