Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a lunchtime, non-chemical, non-invasive procedure that uses various size microneedles or a spray of microcrystals to remove the outermost layer of dry and dead skin cells. This helps to reveal younger, healthier-looking skin. This is an effective non- surgical way to decrease acne scars, fine wrinkles and sunspots by removing the top layers of the skin. No chemicals or laser beams are used. Aluminium oxide micro crystals are used that gently sandblast your skin, leaving it smooth and fresh. Microdermabrasion also encourages the production of a new underlying layer of skin cells with higher levels of collagen and elastin, which further improves your skin’s appearance. It is very cost effective and can be done with previous application of a numbing cream to make it almost painless. The skin usually heals quickly in couple of days with good texture and radiance.

Microdermabrasion should be performed only by trained plastic surgeons or dermatologists only. A typical microdermabrasion face treatment takes between 20 and 30 minutes. If you want other areas apart from face to be treated it may last a bit longer.

Procedure itself….

Firstly, the skin is degreased and cleaned properly. The process is started with a special hand held device through which the aluminium oxide micro crystals are sandblasted through a small tube pressed against the skin. Same thing can be achieved when we use microneedles, the depth of which can be readjusted to various anatomic zones of the face. The device is gently moved around the entire face. After microdermabrasion, an antibiotic cream is applied, followed by a moisturiser and last layer being sun blocking cream which will help the patient to be back to their home or work immediately after the treatment.

Post-procedure care

You will receive a sunscreen hydrating moisturizer after microdermabrasion, to avoid sun damage after leaving the doctor's office. Some redness might occur on treated areas, but they generally disappear after a few hours. During the first 24 hours, your skin may feel dry, use lots of moisturizer during the first few days. Avoid direct sun exposure for at least a week after the treatment, don't use any peeling products and avoid full-face make up (liquid foundation or pressed powder) for at least 3-4 days.
