FAQ’S on Body Implants (Buttock, Calf, Pectoral, Deltoid Augmentation) Except Breast Implants

What do body implants do?

Body implants (Calf, Pectoral, Buttock, Deltoid, Triceps and implants) help to enhance, reshape or better define the area concerned into a more aesthetic and pleasing appearance. Some people get it done due to pure cosmetic reasons whereas others get it done to correct any deformity due to some birth defects, disease process or excessive weight loss.

Are these procedures done under local or general anaesthesia? How long does these procedures take?

These procedures are done under complete sterile precautions in a hospital day care set up under General anaesthesia. On an average these procedures take about 1.5- 2 hours or so per defined area

Can we combine any 2 or more procedures?

Usually we recommend to do one area at a time but in few cases like if someone wants to get buttock and calf implants together we can perform the same as there is no positional change required. Also, postoperatively which position the patient has to rest also determines the type of procedure we can combine.

How long I have to take rest? When can I get back to work or can I travel immediately after the procedure?

After body implants, the amount of rest varies on the type of procedure u have undertaken. For example, if u have undergone buttock or calf implants, we usually advise u to sleep in prone position for 10-14 days or more depending on the healing and advise not to travel before 4 weeks of surgery. So for buttock and calf implants u have to take a long break of couple of weeks from work. Whereas if u do pectoral or deltoid implants, u can get back to work within one week with few restrictions like not to lift heavy weights or do any heavy exercises for at least 6-8 weeks.

Is there lot of pain or swelling after the procedure?

There is mild pain which can be easily controlled by medicines. This varies with the type of operation being performed. Bruising and swelling occurs quite often which gradually improves over few weeks. The final optimal result can usually be appreciated a few months after surgery.

Are there any risks or complications involved with body implants?

The most common risks include bleeding, infection, body rejection, asymmetry, and scarring. Although these events are usually infrequent, they sometimes can occur. These will be discussed with you by Dr Sukhbir during the consultation.

Can Pectoral implants help in any congenital problems also?

Yes, it can help in only the mild variant of Pectus Carinatum or Excavatum.

In case some revision surgery is required, will I charged for the same?

We always try to do our best for all our clients and try to give the desired results as informed in the initial consultation. Occasionally, some patients may get some adverse reactions or rejection or complication after the procedure which may require a revision. If this should occur, there is usually no charge for our surgeon's professional services, but anaesthesiology fees, hospital expenses and any other ancillary expenses have to be paid by the client.
